Giants get first win of season
It wasn’t pretty but the New York Giants finally got their first win in a very ugly game against the Washington Football Team.
Below are my takeaways from the game.
Bradberry for MVP
Giants’ cornerback James Bradberry helped Big Blue got their first touchdown of the game after picking off Washington quarterback Kyle Allen. He now has two interceptions in six games, not bad at all.
Now I’m not saying Bradberry should be the MVP of the NFL, but he might be the Giants’ MVP so far this season.
New York’s defense isn’t bad at all, they just need some help from their offense.
Darius Slayton continues to play at a high level
Slayton continues to show that he has what it takes to be the Giants number one receiver. I don’t think he’s ready yet, but he’s developing very nicely.
Slayton will continue to be limited by a poor offensive line because the less time quarterback Daniel Jones has in the pocket, the harder it will be to get him the ball. Especially deep down field.
Slayton had to the leave the game after securing two catches for 41 yards and a touchdown after aggravating his foot injury. Hopefully he’ll be OK as New York gets ready for a short week.
Too many field goals
Aside of their issues at offensive line, one of the Giants’ biggest problems on offense is their inability to score touchdowns inside the red zone. Now this could partly be due to their line not blocking well.
New York offensive coordinator Jason Garrett needs to figure out how to score inside the 20.
Devonta Freeman isn’t done yet
I’m still in shock that not one team signed former Falcons’ running back Devonta Freeman prior to New York bringing him in. The Giants really struck gold when they signed Freeman after Saquon Barkley went down with a torn ACL.
We can only assume that teams around the NFL thought Freeman was done. He clearly isn’t.
When it comes to this game, it would have been nice to see the Giants try and establish the run more. Freeman finished with 18 carries, for 61 yards.
Something isn’t right
This tweet right here:
This win over Washington was very ugly and if it wasn’t for Ron Rivera going for a late two point conversion, they may have lost because Washington was the better team in the second half.
Next up for the Giants is a meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles this coming Thursday night.
the continual improvement is evident. Patience.
