Daniel Jones is faster than people think
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones ripped off a 49 yard run against the Washington Football Team during Sunday’s win at Met Life Stadium. It was an impressive one and the longest of his short career.
As Jordan Raanan of ESPN pointed out on Monday, Jones clocked a speed of 20.64 mph on his long scamper, which is the fastest run of his career and he now has three of the top seven recorded quarterback runs of the 2020 season. The other four are of course by Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Giants’ wide receiver Darius Slayton knows just how fast his quarterback is, which is why he called him “Daniel Jackson'” after Sunday’s win.
Jones took some shots on Sunday while running the ball, but his speed makes me wonder why the Giants don’t try and get him involved in more outside runs, where he could utilize the sideline and get out of bounds to avoid hits.
The one major issue that Jones has to continue to work on is his turnover. He fumbled the ball against Dallas in week five and than against Washington he threw an unnecessary interception in the back of the end zone that was intended to be a throw away that never made it out of the back of the end zone.
