Daniel Jones slowly improving?
Unlike last season, New York Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones has had more downs than ups this season with 1,223 yards, three touchdowns, six interceptions and a quarterback rating of 55.5 so far this season.
Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus has released his latest NFL quarterback rankings and he has Jones in at number 23, up three spots from 26. Here’s what Monson wrote:
The New York Giants have been one of the worst teams in football through the first six weeks of the season, and while he has been far from flawless, I have been quietly impressed with Daniel Jones pretty much every time I have seen him. His fumbles are still maddening, and his big plays have been less frequent this year, but given how little help he has been receiving, I think his baseline of play has been impressive. His overall PFF grade of 76.0 is good enough to rank 17th in the league, thanks in part to some impressive rushing plays.
I agree with Monson, the Giants’ offense hasn’t helped Jones as much this season as they did in 2019 and his running ability is very impressive. I had no idea he was as fast as he is until he pulled off that 43 yard run against Washington last week.
When it comes to Jones and throwing the football, he needs a little more time in the pocket.
I also believe that Jones is still getting used to Jason Garrett’s offense since he didn’t have the luxury of offseason workouts to get acclimated to Garrett.
