Mark Bavaro knows how Evan Engram feels
The great thing about this season for New York Giants’ tight end Even Engram is that he’s been able to stay healthy. But he’s not performing the way everyone expects him to as a former first round pick with loads of talent.
Last week’s drop against the Philadelphia Eagles was heart breaking for the fact that quarterback Daniel Jones dropped the ball perfectly into his hands and it would have given the Giants a huge win over Philly.
Giants great, former tight end Mark Bavaro says he can relate to Engram.
“I’ve been there,’’ Bavaro told the NY Post. “I had a big drop against the Eagles on a Monday night in Philadelphia. If I had caught it, I might have scored and we might have won the game.’’
Bavaro says his drop caused him to lose confidence in himself.
“I lost a lot of confidence in myself after that drop,’’ Bavaro recalled. “It was such an easy catch. It did take a while to overcome it.’’
Bavaro says it’s easy to remember the bad plays over the good ones. He actually had nine catches for 148 yards before his bad drop in 1988 against the Eagles.
“I don’t even remember that,’’ he said. “You only remember the bad ones. And that was a bad one. It was a game-loser. I still remember that play to this day. It never really leaves you.’’
Hopefully Engram can forget and bounce back this week. The best athletes in the world seem to have the shortest memories.
