The Giants have been hit by COVID-19
Update: Some Giants’ coaches were told to stay home as well because they’re considered close contacts. A total of eight players and two coaches are isolating.
Original story: With the NFL now almost eight weeks into the 2020 season, it seems like more and more teams are having players test positive for COVID-19. Now you can add the New York Giants to that list.
Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Thursday that a player on the Giants have tested positive for COVID-19.
With the news now out, the Giants have released a statement saying that their facility will remain open and they will practice ahead of their Monday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Late last night, we were notified that a Giants player tested positive for COVID-19. The player was immediately self-isolated, and the contact tracing process was initiated.
All of the player’s close contacts were identified and were informed to remain home today. Those individuals will participate in meetings remotely. We are working closely with the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer regarding next protocol steps.
Quest Diagnostics Training Center will remain open, and the rest of the team will follow their normal practice and meeting schedule.
Looks like Will Hernandez is the player who tested positive.
We can only hope that the player will be fine and that he didn’t spread it to anyone else on the team. The last thing the NFL or the Giants need is a massive break out of COVID-19.
