Dante Pettis could certainly help the Giants
The San Francisco 49ers waived former second round pick, wide receiver Dante Pettis, after failing to trade him prior to yTuesday’s trade deadline.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Giants have claimed Pettis off of waivers.
This is a good move for the Giants who don’t have much depth at the receiver position and Pettis’ contract runs through next season so if things don’t pan out, it’s not a big deal. But on the flip side they have acquired a talented player that could pan out for them.
Pettis was taken with the 44th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington. During his short NFL career he has hauled in 58 receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns.
Pettis’ father Gary Pettis was a Major League Baseball player and is a current coach for the Houston Astros. His brother is an actor and his cousin is former NFL wide receiver Austin Pettis.
The one assumption that has been made is that Pettis doesn’t love playing football. We’ll have to see how things work out with the Giants.
