Dante Pettis still has potential
The New York Giants bolstered their receiving corps on Wednesday when they claimed wide receiver Dante Pettis off of waivers after the San Francisco 49ers released him earlier in the week.
Field Yates of ESPN reported on Thursday that if the Giants didn’t put in a claim for Pettis that the New England Patriots would have been awarded his rights since they also put in a claim. Another team that put in a claim for Pettis was the Cleveland Browns.
In case you didn’t know, in the NFL the team with the worse record gets a higher priority. So because the Giants only have one win so far this season and the Patriots have two they were higher on the waiver wire order and were awarded Pettis.
There is no doubt that Pettis was a disappointment with the 49ers, but he has value as a punt returner and the Giants, Patriots and Browns all need help at the receiver position it’s not a surprise that they all put in a claim.
One of the Patriots’ biggest weaknesses this season is their receiving corps and the Browns need to add more depth with Odell Beckham Jr. out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
