Is Justin Fields the answer for the Giants?
With the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. At least according to Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus, who has released his latest mock draft.
Here’s what Renner wrote about the Giants and Fields:
I wrote earlier this week why the Giants have to be willing to move on from Daniel Jones this offseason. Fields has started 2020 like a house on fire with 52 of 54 targeted attempts hitting receivers’ hands. I’m not sure Jones even did that at his pro day.
While I believe the Giants need to be patient with Daniel Jones, I’m all for them drafting someone like Fields or any other quarterback that could end up becoming their next franchise signal-caller.
The upside of taking Fields is that if he turns out to be great they will have their quarterback of the future. And if bringing him in elevates Jones’ play they will then have two great quarterbacks and they can then trade one of them for draft assets.
At the end of the day I don’t think the Giants will end up with the second overall pick, but I do think they’ll be picking in the top-five. it will be interesting to see whether Fields is available when they’re on the clock and whether they take him next April.
