Giants finally close a game out
The New York Giants went into Washington and almost let a win slip away until their defense came up with two late interceptions. Here are my takeaways from their win over the Washington Football Team.
Young offensive line improving
Shane Lemieux, Matt Peart, Chad Slade and company have looked very good over the past two games for a young offensive line that has had to face two very good defenses. I wonder if the Giants should even give veteran Will Hernandez his starting job back with Lemieux playing well.
They will have yet another test against the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.
Giants may need to re-sign Leonard Williams
The Giants have a big decision to make this offseason after acquiring Williams in a trade from the New York Jets last season for two draft picks/. They need to make a decision about his future as he plays under the $16 million franchise tag this season.
Williams recorded his fifth sack of the season against Washington, but they also have other good defensive lineman like B.J. Hill and Dexter Lawrence. So far, with the way he’s playing someone will pay him during the offseason.
Daniel Jones put together complete game
Yeah I know Washington is the one team that Jones has always played well against, but their defense is very good and he did a pretty good job of protecting the football aside from one fumble that was recovered by New York. He also made some beautiful throws down field early in the game to capitalize off of Washington turnovers.
Even though many fans want Jones out, he proved that he deserves more time to prove himself. There was a report this past week that New York doesn’t plan on giving up on him heading into 2021, so he’s not going anywhere.
Alfred Morris needs more carries
Morris has been on the Giants’ practice squad for most of the season and was activated for the first time last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and carried the ball eight times for 28 yards.
Morris put together an even better game against his former team , the Washington Football Team, as he rushed for 67 yards on nine carries. If Freeman continues to miss time, Morris should split the carries with Wayne Gallman. You can even argue that he’s played better than Gallman.
Giants may not need Golden Tate
Giants’ rookie wide receiver Austin Mack came into this game with one reception for one yard. He came up big with Golden Tate out due to a coaches decision. Mack finished the game with four catches for 72 yards on five targets.
If Tate doesn’t get hit attitude together, the Giants won’t need to play him much going forward.
