Devonta Freeman will be out at least another three weeks
After missing the past few game, the New York Giants were hoping to get running back Devonta Freeman back for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead, he will be out at least another three weeks.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Friday that Freeman has been now been placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury on top of his ankle injury.
With Freeman out, the Giants will of course sign Alfred Morris from their practice squad to their active 53-man roster for the third time this season. This will be the final time the Giants can do so. They have to either keep him on their roster or release him and hope that he clears waivers if they want to add him to their practice squad.
The Giants will miss Freeman but the good news is that both Morris and Wayne Gallman have been doing a very good job of picking up the slack in his absence so their running game should be fine against the Eagles.
Even though Freeman has been looked good this season, his inability to stay healthy is why he was a free agent when the Giants signed him. During his final two years with the Atlanta Falcons he had a hard time staying healthy.
