Giants will have to dig up film on Brandon Allen
Update: Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor won’t get name a starter.
Original: Just last week everyone was preparing to watch the New York Giants face off against the Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow this coming Sunday.
Well a week later and Burrow is out for the season with a torn ACL and MCL after suffering a low hit against the Washington Football Team this past Sunday. Ryan Finley came in in relief and it looked like he would now start against the Giants. Well that’s not the case.
Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported on Wednesday that Brandon Allen will get the start against New York. With Finley not looking great against Washington, no one should be surprised by this.
Allen was a fourth round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 but never actually played for them. He appeared in three career games as a starter as a member of the Denver Broncos in 2019 and went 1-2. He’s completed 39 of 84 pass attempts for 515 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions as a starter.
What’s really interesting is that the Giants have a bit of a connection to Allen given the fact that New York outside linebackers coach & senior defensive assistant Bret Bielema was his head coach at Arkansas from 2013-2016.
