Nick Mangold probably wouldn’t be a great coach
The New York Giants’ offensive line didn’t look very promising early on this season even with first round pick Andrew Thomas at left tackle. Part of that was because even the Georgia product wasn’t living up to the hype.
But then Giants’ head coach Joe Judge stepped in to help former offensive line coach Marc Colombo and turned things around. One of things he instituted was a rotation for his offensive linemen while helping them work together and improve their technique.
One person who isn’t a fan of Judge’s rotation is former New York Jets center Nick Mangold. He posted the following on Twitter in a tweet that was also a paid advertisement.
“I don’t care about the Giants but their fans buy (ad here) too so I’m going to give some free advice (and disclaimer, I want every new head coach to do well). However, rotating offensive lineman is an absolute terrible idea. THE WORST IDEA EVER!”
I’m glad Mangold isn’t the Giants’ offensive line coach because they certainly wouldn’t be playing as well as they have been over the past few games. Just because he played in the NFL as an offensive lineman doesn’t make him an expert. Not all former players can be coaches. I think the proof is in the pudding that the rotation has been working for the Giants.
Judge has this Giants team believing in themselves and in the hunt to win the NFC East and clinch a playoff spot this season. So there’s no doubt that what he’s doing is working.
