Logan Ryan may not be back in 2021
You could make the argument that New York Giants’ safety Logan Ryan has been Big Blue’s MVP for the 2020 NFL season so far. Now it looks like he’s ready to cash in during the upcoming offseason.
Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media is reporting that Ryan is ready to test free agency while also being interested in returning to the Giants next season.
Ryan is currently on a one-year contract that’s paying him over $5 million. He will be 30 years-old when the 2021 season starts, so he won’t command top dollar, but I would imagine that he will be looking for a deal that will pay him around $8 million per season.
The highest paid safety in the NFL right now is Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos at over $11 million per season. So I think $7-8 million per year for Ryan will be fair. I would imagine that his next contract could be a 2-3 year deal.
It will be interesting to see how much the Giants value Ryan with guys like Jabrill Peppers and Xavier McKinney under contract. He brings value to the Giants with his veteran leadership and experience. But is that enough for them to re-sign him?
