Will people start taking the Giants seriously?
The New York Giants went into Seattle and shocked the world by knocking off one of the top teams in the NFC in the Seahawks.
Here are my takeaways from the Giants huge week 13 win:
Special teams is going through a funk
The Giants special teams unit had some first half blunders with a blocked punt in their own end zone that luckily only turned into a safety and not a touchdown.
Kicker Graham Gano missed an extra point and New York’s punt coverage could have been better.
Patrick Graham is a genius
The defensive scheme that Graham put together to slow down Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson and star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was brilliant.
The backend of the Giants’ defense did their job because Wilson had no one to throw the ball to most of the time which led to five sacks, 2.5 of those by defensive lineman Leonard Williams, who has been on a tare this season.
Colt McCoy was good enough
McCoy isn’t the worst quarterback in the NFL, but the Giants will need an upgrade over him heading into next season. Ideally it would be nice to have a signal-caller behind Daniel Jones that can sling the ball aroudn more and not have to rely on the run game to set up the pass.
Now I will give McCoy credit, he made some huge throws down the stretch to put the Giants in a position to come away with the win and he got the job done.
Jabrill Peppers is a stud
It’s amazing to see how much safety Jabrill peppers has improved this season and i think a lot of it has to do with the defensive scheme under Patrick Graham and having veteran Logan Ryan next to him.
Peppers was all over the field making plays against the Seahawks, whether it was against the run or the pass.
Giants are legit contenders
Sunday’s win over the Seahawks wasn’t a fluke, this team is for real. Their defense has been getting better each and every week the offense is riding running back Wayne Gallman.
