Daniel Jones gives the Giants the best chance to win
Media outlets all over the place have been ripping the New York Giants and head coach Joe Judge for having Daniel Jones start at quarterback against the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday even though they knew he wasn’t 100 percent healthy and couldn’t move around like he typically can.
Honestly, I think the Giants made the right call and I’ll tell you why.
Colt McCoy isn’t the answer
I read a headline today asking whether the Giants should bench Jones for Colt McCoy. Um, no.
I’m sorry but Jones being injured and immobile is still a better choice at quarterback than McCoy because he can make better throws and does a better job of running the offense.
McCoy is not the answer and that was proven against the Seattle Seahawks where the Giants couldn’t throw the ball early on because they couldn’t trust him. If they didn’t run the ball well that game the Seahawks would have come away with the win. But luckily for Colt the run set up the pass and he made some easy throws down the stretch. He is purely a game-manager.
You also can’t tell me that the Giants’ offense would have played better with McCoy at quarterback against the Cardinals. Most of their offensive problems were due to the fact that New York’s offensive line couldn’t protect Jones because the Cardinals were using stunts on defense to get to him.
Jones is expected to be a franchise quarterback
For a player like Jones who was taken with the sixth overall pick in 2019, he needs to prove that he can play through injuries’ because that’s what franchise quarterbacks do. It’s all a part of the game and with the Giants in a race for the playoffs, he’s the best chance they have at winning the NFC East. Not Colt McCoy.
Now I’m not going to sit here and say that Jones is great and perfect because he’s not. I just detailed what his biggest problem is and that is he needs to fix it before he ruins his career. But right now he gives the Giants the best chance to win.
