Giants committed to Daniel Jones, for now
New York Giants’ second-year quarterback Daniel Jones has had an up and down season in 2020 and some people would love for the organization to find another young signal-caller to lead them into the future. While others like myself think Jones needs more time to develop.
Giants’ head coach Joe Judge spoke very highly of Jones on Wednesday.
“I don’t know if there’s an ‘aha’ moment,” Judge said, via Giants Wire. “To me, it’s a string of moments watching Daniel work. Watching the respect he has in the locker room. Watching him improve throughout this season. I think he’s demonstrated a level of toughness and leadership and knowledge on the field that gives us confidence to put him out there and build with Daniel.
“So I’m not going to point to one moment, but I can talk about this entire season of: This guy has definitely earned my respect. I made it very hard on him from the beginning in a lot of ways and he hasn’t blinked.”
Judge was then asked if Jones is their quarterback next season.
“Daniel Jones is our quarterback,” Judge said.
I know people want Jones to immediately become a franchise quarterback, but that’s not realistic with everyone. I will say though that next season will likely be his make or break year with the Giants. But as an organization they need to get him a number one receiver in the draft or via free agency.
The most important thing for Jones is for him to improve his pocket awareness and stop fumbling the ball unnecessarily.
