Another tall task for the Giants in week 16
Heading into week 16 the New York Giants are now in a must-win situation against the Baltimore Ravens because if they lose and the Washington Football Team defeat the Carolina Panthers (which will likely happen), Big Blue’s playoff hopes will be over because the team from DC will win the NFC East and clinch a playoff spot.
Below are the keys for victory for the Giants.
Contain Lamar Jackson
The past two weeks the Giants’ defense has had a hard time containing both Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals and Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns. The bad news is that Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson is an entirely different beast who is on another level.
Jackson recently torched the Dallas Cowboys for 94 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns. The one team that ironically did a nice job of containing him was the Jacksonville Jaguars who held him to 35 yards on 10 carries.
Use Check Downs
Opposing defenses know the Giants’ offense has to get their run game going. The problem is that if they can’t they’re in a bad position because their passing game is not very good. The key will be to use check downs to their tight ends and running backs, which can open up the deep passing game as well as the run.
Stop the run
The Ravens have one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL ( they’re actually worse than the Giants). So if they slow down J.K. Dobbins and company it will make things a whole lot easier for their defense to get off the field.
