Logan Ryan is the veteran leader the Giants were looking for
One of the biggest reasons the New York Giants are still in the hunt for the playoffs and the NFC East title is not just because of how bad the rest of their division is but it’s because of veteran leaders like safety Logan Ryan. He’s done a great job in helping their defense keep things together and battle against some very good offenses despite some glaring holes at cornerback and outside linebacker to name a few.
It turns out that signing Ryan to a contract extension was a big priority for the Giants’ coaching staff this season and they got the job done after inking him to a new deal that runs through 2023, according to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com.
Giants’ head coach Joe Judge raved about Ryan earlier this month.
“He’s just a phenomenal person,” Judge said. “He’s always been very direct, very honest. He’s just a genuine person. He doesn’t have a lot of time for fluff. He’s going to look you in your eye and tell you what he thinks, and that’s really what you ask of a man. But he’s a guy that puts his team first. He does a lot of things in the community that he keeps very quiet because he’s doing it for the right reasons, not for some kind of public acknowledgement. He has a tremendous wife, a tremendous family behind him. I think that says a lot about him, obviously, the people he’s closest to and what kind of people they are.
“He’s a great vet to have in our locker room. You talk about guys who can lead by example. He’s definitely a guy who comes in every day and works his absolute hardest. He empties the tank, and we couldn’t ask for anything more from him.”
Keeping Ryan makes a lot of sense because of how he’s helped guys like Jabrill Peppers and I’m sure he will be huge in the development of rookie Xavier McKinney.
Whether or not the Giants make the playoffs this season or not, I have a hard time believing that they won’t make the playoffs before Ryan’s time in New York is over as long as they continue to build around their strong veteran leaders.
