Nick Gates is developing nicely for the Giants
With the 2020 NFL regular season winding down, it looks like the New York Giants may have found their center for the next several years.
Pro Football Focus has Giants third-year center Nicks Gates as the most improved player on the team this season with a 70.1 pass block grade. His pass blocking grade ranks him 11th among centers in the NFL since week 7. Gate’s overall PFF grade this season is a 57.3.
The Giants signed Gates as an undrafted rookie in 2018 out of the University of Nebraska. I don’t think anyone on the outside thought that he would be the Giants’ starting center at this point in the season and that he would be playing as well as he has.
Gates and the Giants’ offensive line have a big match-up against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Hopefully they can open up the holes needed for running backs Wayne Gallman and Alfred Morris to have big days. New York’s line will also need to protect quarterback Daniel Jones who has been sacked 13 times over the course of his past two starts.
