Leonard Williams is about to make a lot of money
When the New York Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman traded for defensive lineman Leonard Williams during the 2019 NFL season many fans of the team weren’t happy due to the fact that he was regarded as a first round bust that the New York Jets were just trying to unload.
A year later and Williams finished the season with 11.5 sacks and was a huge part in helping the Giants’ defense knock off the Seattle Seahawks in the middle of the season as well as defeat the Dallas Cowboys in week 17 to go out with a win and have a shot at the playoffs.
Williams admitted this week that it feels good to prove the doubters wrong.
“I’ve definitely seen a lot of the criticism and the hate and stuff like that in the press and the media and by the fans,” Williams told reporters. “It feels good to prove them wrong, but also show why Dave Gettleman took a chance on me. He obviously took a chance on me and it feels good to show him that it was the right choice. At the end of the day, we had a good season and it was all a credit to all the guys that we played with this year.”
Now the Giants have to figure out how they’re going to pay Williams after he played on the franchise tag in 2020.
