Tyrod Taylor would be an upgrade over Colt McCoy
I truly believe that Daniel Jones is the right starting quarterback for the New York Giants, but they need to make an upgrade when it comes to his back up.
The quarterback the Giants should go after in free agency is Tyrod Taylor, who played this season for the Los Angeles Chargers and was their starter until he was forced to miss a game due to a team trainer puncturing his lung with an injection. Of course he never got his job back with rookie Justin Herbert playing so well.
The reason I like Taylor more than McCoy, who looked good in his last start for the Giants, is that he has a better arm and is more of a proven player when it comes to starting games. He has a career starting record of 24-21-1 and a rating of 89.5. Compared to McCoy’s record of 8-22 and a career quarterback rating of 78.1. Now of course many of those starts were with bad Browns’ teams, but Taylor is clearly a better player if you have watched both of them play.
Taylor was given a contract with the Chargers that paid him around $5.5 million per season in 2019. McCoy’s contract paid him $2.5 million for this season. I think paying a little extra for Taylor is worth it given the fact that Jones has missed games in each of his first two seasons now.
