Giants could end up on HBO this summer
New York Giants’ co-owner John Mara has always been against the idea of his team being featured on HBO’s NFL reality series Hard Knocks. He went as far as to say that he will have to be dead for Big Blue to be on the show.
“That announcement will come,” Mara told the New York Daily News back in 2010, “when I’m next to my father in Gates of Heaven cemetery.”
Well now that head coach Joe Judge had his first season with the Giants, they’re eligible according to the guidelines, which are below.
- The team does not have a first-year head coach.
- The team has not made the playoffs in either of the previous two years.
- The team has not appeared on “Hard Knocks” over the previous 10 seasons.
Hard Knocks will be airing their 20th season this coming summer. It’s a miracle that the Giants have never been on the show. I also wonder how much say they have in whether they will appear on the show. Does the NFL and commissioner Rodger Goodell even give them a choice?
The Giants are a very conservative organization and don’t want too much attention on their team. They definitely don’t want camera crews all around their facility all summer long because of the distraction it presents to the players and staff.
