Andrew Thomas turned out to be the right pick
Looking back at how New York Giants’ left tackle Andrew Thomas performed in his first NFL season and I don’t think I would have taken anyone else with the fourth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Thomas may not have gotten off to the best start, but he proved at the end of the season that he belongs in the NFL after improving tremendously on a weekly basis.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report posted a 2020 redraft and he has the Giants taking offensive tackle Mekhi Becton who ended up going to the New York Jets. Below is a portion of what he wrote:
Louisville’s Mekhi Becton, on the other hand, committed seven penalties and allowed seven sacks in nearly 300 fewer snaps, but he was still one of the few bright spots for the New York Jets.
Regardless, Becton has the higher physical ceiling and is a mauler in the running game. That may not be a major selling point for the 2020 season, but with Saquon Barkley back in the lineup for 2021, it could be huge.
I think Thomas was very good as a run blocker for most of the season and got better in pass protection each and every week.
