Jaylen Waddle could certainly help the Giants’ offense
I really believe if the New York Giants had a top-tier number one wide receiver this past season things wouldn’t have been as bad for Jason Garrett’s offense. Now I’m not giving the offensive coordinator a pass for his poor play-calling at times, but things would have been a little better.
Seth Galina of Pro Football Focus posted a new 2021 NFL Mock Draft and has the Giants using the 11th overall pick on Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Here’s what he wrote:
Daniel Jones probably impressed the Giants brass just enough to keep his job another year, so they must protect him any way they can. They took a tackle last season, so NFL logic dictates that they can’t take another offensive lineman. This means Jaylen Waddle is coming to the Big Apple.
Stylistically, Waddle is my favorite receiver in the draft — the speed is shocking. It shouldn’t be legal to average 11.2 yards after the catch per reception, as Waddle did over the past two years at Alabama.
Of course Devonta Smith would have been ideal, but I don’t think there’s an doubt that he will go third to the Miami Dolphins at this point.
The Giants could also go with LSU’s Ja’marr Chase, but Galina has him going to the Philadelphia Eagles at six.
If Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones is going to have any chance at living up to expectations he will need one of the three wide receivers mentioned in this article.
