Chad Wheeler is suddenly in legal trouble
Former New York Giants’ and current Seattle Seahawks’ offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was arrested this past Saturday morning on suspicion of felony assault-domestic violence.
Here are the details from ESPN:
Wheeler is accused of assaulting a woman at an apartment in the Seattle suburb of Kent, according to a police report obtained by The Seattle Times. The Kent Police Department’s report said Wheeler is accused of throwing the woman on a bed, strangling her before she lost consciousness and later picking a lock on a door to a bathroom, where the woman had fled to call 911 after she regained consciousness.
The incident began when Wheeler asked the woman to bow to him, according to the report. It said Wheeler had not been taking his medication for bipolar disorder.
The Seahawks said in a statement obtained by ESPN, “We are aware of the situation and still gathering information.”
Wheeler was released from jail on Tuesday after posting bail. I would be surprised if the Seahawks keep him given the fact that he’s a back-up. Also it seems like the NFL has had a lot less patience for domestic violence incidents since what happened with former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice several years ago.
The 27 year-old Wheeler was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017 by the Giants and was placed on injured reserve in 2019. He then signed with the Seahawks after being waived shortly after.
