LT wasn’t fan of Bill Belichick becoming his defensive coordinator
New England Patriots’ head coach and former New York Giants’ defensive coordinator Bill Belichick has praised Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor in the past by referring to him as “the greatest defensive football player in the history of the game” after coaching him early on in his career.
It turns out though that LT wasn’t crazy about former Giants’ head coach Bill Parcells promoting Belichick to defensive coordinator back in the day.
“The next year, he’s special teams coach, and then the third year, (Bill) Parcells becomes the head coach and he makes … Belichick the defensive coordinator,” he said during an appearance on The Boardroom: Out of Office via Jordan Cohn of Radio.com. “And I went apes–t. I went up to him and I said, ‘Ain’t no way! Ain’t no way!'”
Of course the rest is history as we all know the Giants won two Super Bowls with Belichick as their defensive coordinator in 1986 and 1990. It’s safe to say that Taylor’s concerns weren’t necessary.
Now with everything that Belichick has done with the New England Patriots, he will go down as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
