Jaylen Waddle and Devonta Smith are top-tier prospects
The University of Alabama doesn’t only have one top-10 wide receiver coming out in the 2021 NFL Draft, but two wide receivers in Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.
As of right now, with just under three months until the draft, Smith is expected to be taken before Waddle and go third overall to the Miami Dolphins.
Check out the video below of Mike Renner of Pro Football Focus who has a good argument as to why Waddle should be drafted ahead of Smith.
Renner has a valid point about Smith’s size. He looks frail for someone who is about to make the jump to the NFL from college. I also agree that Waddle is a better athlete and he may not have some of the receiver skills that Smith has, but that can develop.
I would say that Smith is probably the more refined receiver when it comes to being ready to make an immediate impact in the NFL, but Waddle could very well come in as a rookie and put up big numbers.
if I was an NFL general manager that had to choose between these two players I would take Waddle because of his athleticism.
I’m sure the Giants would take either player due to the fact that they need a number one wide receiver. There is a good chance that he will be on the board when they’re on the clock at 11.
