Giants likely won’t be able to sign Chris Godwin
Whether the New York Giants sign a wide receiver in free agency or draft one in the 2021 NFL Draft, one thing is for sure, they need to give starting quarterback Daniel Jones more weapons heading into next season.
One player that it sounds like the Giants won’t be able to sign when free agency rolls around is Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Chris Godwin.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Sunday that the Bucs are expected to keep Godwin.
Now the interesting twist here is that the Bucs also have to figure out what to do with linebacker Shaq Barrett, who is also scheduled to become a free agent. It looks like they will have to choose between Barrett and Godwin because they can’t afford to sign both.
So even if Tampa re-signs Godwin, the Giants could pursue Barrett in free agency and bring in the edge rusher that they need in order to bolster their defense.
One thing that Bucs’ fans will realize once the Super Bowl is over, their team won’t look the same in 2021 because of free agency, which will make it difficult to return to the big game.
