Leonard Williams is ready for a big pay day
After having a breakout year in 2020 for the New York Giants, defensive lineman Leonard Williams will hit the open free agent market this offseason.
Williams is probably the biggest free agent the Giants will have and right now we can only wonder whether they will be able to re-sign him.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN mentioned this week that he’s hearing that the Giants are making a strong effort to keep Williams. Here’s what he wrote:
I continue to hear the Giants will put forth a strong effort to keep Williams, who broke out with 11.5 sacks and 30 quarterback hits. Williams likes the way DC Patrick Graham got him loose with stunts and tilted fronts. Keep the party rolling with a big payday before the new league year. If that doesn’t happen, Williams will have plenty of suitors after realizing his enormous potential in 2020.
No matter who signs Williams this offseason, whether it’s the Giants or someone else, they will be taking a big risk given that he looked like a possible first round bust up until this past season.
But if any team is going to be able to help Williams continue to play at a high level it will be the Giants and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham who seems to have figured out how to get him to dominate opposing offensive lines.
Now if the Giants to end up bringing Williams back, I would imagine that his teammate and fellow defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson will sign with another team because New York won’t have the money to sign both players.
