Daniel Jones is a better quarterback than people think
The critics haven’t let up on New York Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones after a solid second season and he will have a make or break year in 2021.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. was a guest on Jordan Raanan’s Breaking Big Blue podcast and he said that Jones is better than any other quarterback in this year’s draft aside from Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
“I personally think Daniel Jones is a better quarterback than anybody in this draft except Trevor Lawrence,” said Kiper around the 27 minute mark of the podcast.
Kiper went on to say that Zach Wilson of BYU and Justin Fields of Ohio State have grades that are close to Jones’ but not the same or higher. He said that Jones would have been the second highest rated quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft if he was coming out now.
Raanan asked Kiper to give his thoughts on how Jones has played so far during his career, and he defended him by pointing out the Giants’ offensive line problems and a lack of targets with tight end Evan Engram dropping the ball.
Kiper also went on to say that he feels like people don’t want to be patient with developing players and I totally agree. Everyone expects every rookie quarterback to come in and be great right away. That’s not realistic. Some guys take a few years and there’s nothing wrong with that.
He also mentioned how people were hating Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen and now he’s a great player. We’ll have to wait and see how things turn out next season.
