Looks like Leonard Williams has good shot at re-signing with Giants
This week a report came out that the New York Giants plan on making a strong effort to re-sign defensive lineman Leonard Williams this offseason after a huge year in 2020.
Pat Ragazzo of Giants Wire is reporting that the Giants have already held preliminary talks with Williams with regards to a new contract and there is a chance that he could get re-signed before free agency opens up next month.
With the Giants already working on a deal for Williams, I wonder if this means that they’re not trying to re-sign fellow defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson until they find out whether they can re-sign Williams.
I would imagine that re-signing Williams is the Giants’ top priority and if they can’t get a deal done, they will then work on keeping Tomlinson. Now if Williams sticks around, I would expect Tomlinson to sign with another team.
The Giants don’t have a lot of cap room heading into free agency, which is why they’re expected to release some veterans like Nate Solder if they want to strengthen their roster this offseason.
Whether the Giants keep Williams or not, I would expect them to either sign another defensive lineman in free agency at a bargain price or draft someone to replace Tomlinson because they’re likely not keeping both guys.
