Daniel Jones is better than his ranking shows
With the 2020 NFL season now behind us, the folks at NFL.com decided to released their 2020 quarterback index rankings.
Of course the first thing I looked at is where they have New York Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones ranked. As you can see below, they have him at number 24 out of 59 quarterbacks on the list. Four NFL.com writers in Ali Bhanpuri, Tom Blair, Gennaro Filice and Dan Parr did the rankings and they all have Jones at a different spot. So the 24th overall ranking is an average.
Rank 24: Daniel Jones
Individual Rank: Bhanpuri: 30 | Blair: 25 | Filice: 20 | Parr: 24
2020 stats: 14 games | 62.5 pct | 2,943 pass yds | 6.6 ypa | 11 pass TD | 10 INT | 423 rush yds | 1 rush TD | 6 fumbles lost
Bhanpuri: One of the most infuriating players in the entire league, Daniel Jones has proven in his short career that he can make every throw and almost any run. And yet, he turns the ball over (1.4 per game) like he’s going toe to toe with Jameis Winston. Can Jones make a Baker Mayfield-like leap in Year 3?
It is certainly true that Jones is almost complete quarterback and that he has to cut down on the turnovers. Year three is typically when a quarterback shows whether he truly has what it takes to be a starter.
I do have to say that after looking at the rankings I can’t argue about where Jones is right now. But he has chance to shoot up in these rankings after next season.
