JPP is one of the Giants’ best first round draft picks
Even though New York Giants’ fans aren’t fond of former general manager Jerry Reese despite the fact that the organization won two Super Bowls while he was in charge.
But one executive, former Giants’ director of scouting Marc Ross, did a heck of a job in helping the Giants acquire players like Odell Beckham Jr., Hakeem Nicks and many other stars during his time under Reese. One player in particular was of course defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul who he admits he spotted by accident.
“I’m watching tape and this number 90 just keeps jumping off the tape,” Ross said on WJFK’s Zach Brook’s Upon Further Review podcast. “I had to keep checking the chart. I’m supposed to be watching George Selvie, he was 95, but this 90 guy…I kept looking up and thinking ‘Damn, I must be looking at the wrong guy.’ But it was JPP.
“He had just gotten to South Florida and was kind of an unknown. He had went to junior college, a couple different junior colleges and went to South Florida.”
JPP was a freak in college. I’m sure you might remember the video of him doing back flips.
It’s a shame that Pierre=Paul didn’t finish his career with the Giants, but he did help them win a Super Bowl in 2011.
