Will the Giants be able to re-sign Leonard Williams?
Teams around the NFL now have until March 9th to use their franchise tag on any of their players that are set to hit free agency. This means that if the New York Giants are keen on not allowing defensive lineman Leonard Williams become a free agent, they will need to tag him or get a new contract done before that deadline. There is a problem though.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic is reporting that the Giants and Williams are still far apart when it comes to agreeing on a new contract.
This makes me wonder whether the Giants might start working on a new deal for fellow defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson if they get closer to March 9th and don’t believe they’ll be able to keep Williams.
With the franchise tag deadline just under two weeks away, there is a chance that as we get closer to the deadline that New York could get something done with Williams because both sides may start to give in a little to make sure something gets done.
There is also a chance that Williams isn’t pressed to sign a new deal and wouldn’t mind testing the open market after a monster season in 2020. You have to remember, people were writing him off as a bust prior to this past season, he’s earned this opportunity to cash in.
