Xavier McKinney is one of the Giants’ most promising players
New York Giants’ safety Xavier McKinney didn’t get a lot of playing time in 2020 after missing most of the season with a broken foot. But when he started playing during the last few games, it became apparent that he has a lot potential.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has listed McKinney as one of his second-year breakout players.
McKinney was my top-rated safety in last year’s draft so I am bullish, perhaps stubborn, in regards to his potential. The former Alabama defensive back missed 11 games, but ended the season on a high note with an interception against Dallas. One would think upgrading the pass rush is a priority for the Giants this offseason, and that only means more turnover opportunities for McKinney.
I believe the one thing that will help McKinney is the fact that he’s surrounded by so many talented defensive backs in Jabrill Peppers, Logan Ryan and James Bradberry. They will all make his job easier on the field and he can learn from both Peppers and Ryan when it comes to how to play safety in the NFL.
Something else that will help McKinney is having a defensive coordinator like Patrick Graham who clearly knows how to use the weapons that he has.
