Kyle Van Noy would fill a need for the Giants
News came out on Tuesday after Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network broke the news on Twitter that the Miami Dolphins are releasing starting linebacker Kyle Van Noy after just one season with the team.
This is a bit of a surprise with the Dolphins handing Van Noy a four-year, $51 million contract with $31 million guaranteed just last March. Now on the flipside, after a rough financial year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the salary cap will not get the typical boost that it normally does, so there will be a lot of veteran players that will be released unexpectedly within the next few months.
What’s interesting though is that the Giants were interested in Van Noy last offseason. Of course he has a connection with New York head coach Joe Judge since they were both with the New England Patriots in 2019 together. So should the Giants sign Van Noy now?
The short answer is yes. But, only if the money is right because the Giants won’t have a lot of cap space to work with.
Now Van Noy would fill a need at outside linebacker for Big Blue. He’s a pretty good edge rusher after recording six sacks in each of the past two seasons. And he’s a good all around player that is a leader on and off the field. But if signing him doesn’t make sense for the Giants and the move can’t be made.
