Kevin Zeitler will likely be released
The New York Giants released wide receiver Golden Tate and linebacker David Mayo this week as they look to clear out some cap space.
Another player to keep an eye on possibly being released is veteran offensive guard Kevin Zeitler, but it looks like the Giants are trying to trade him first.
CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported on Thursday that the Giants are trying to trade Zeitler, but likely won’t be able to because other teams are expecting them to just release him.
With the Giants owing Zeitler $14.5 million in 2021, teams know they can’t afford to keep him. If New York were to release him it would free up that money and only cost them $2.5 million in dead money.
Now, the Giants could try and restructure Zeitler’s contract, but that can only happen if he’s willing to do so. With how he had to split playing time with Shane Lemieux last season, he may want to leave and play for another team.
I fully expect Big Blue to release Zeitler very soon.
