Jaylen Waddle is the player the Giants need
After reading way too many mock drafts over the past two months, I think it’s safe to say that Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is one of the most popular picks for the New York Giants.
With that being said, ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay has released his latest mock and he has the Giants using the 11th overall pick on Waddle.
The Giants have to give this offense more to work with. They were one of four teams to average fewer than five yards per play last season, and their 5.9 yards per pass attempt ranked No. 29. However, Waddle’s 18.9 yards per catch over the past two seasons ranked eighth in the country. There isn’t a more dangerous player with the ball in his hands in the draft class, thanks to excellent top-end speed, vision and elusiveness. And I hope Nick Saban has been glued to his TV because that’s four straight Alabama players off the board, including two first-round receivers for the second time in two years.
The one thing I wonder about Waddle is whether he can come in right away and become a number one receiver. The feeling I get is that it could take some time for that to happen. But if the Giants do end up drafting him, he’ll definitely be an immediate help by giving quarterback Daniel Jones another dynamic target down the field.
