Giants could likely get Trai Turner at a bargain price
With the New York Giants releasing starting offensive guard Kevin Zeitler earlier in the week, they will need to find a veteran replacement for him.
The Los Angeles Chargers ended up releasing guard Trai Turner on Friday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He could be someone the Giants look to sign this offseason.
The 27 year-old turner has ties to Giants’ general manager Dave Gettleman from their time at the Carolina Panthers together.
Gettleman selected Turner in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of LSU. He was then traded in 2019 to the Chargers in exchange for Russel Okung. Now. like Zeitler he became a cap causality this offseason.
Turner is a five-time Pro Bowler and is still young for an NFL player. So despite a down year in 2020,, he could bounce back in the right situation. He recorded a Pro Football Focus grade of 34.8 this past season.
With Turner coming off of a bad season, the Giants should be able to get him on a cheap one-year deal to give him a chance to prove himself.
