Bud Dupree is a risky free agent
One of the top edge rushers in the NFL that’s about to hit the open market is Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Bud Dupree.
ESPN predicted this past week that the New York Giants will end up signing Dupree when free agency opens up this coming week. But the question is, do the Giants want to sign him?
Jordan Raanan of ESPN recently said in his Breaking Big Blue podcast that some people within the Giants’ building like Dupree.
“Bud Dupree is a guy I have my eyes on. I know there are people in the building who like him,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue podcast, via Giants Wire. “Obviously, I don’t know if they’re willing to make that offer and go to that level because [he’s] coming off a serious knee injury. And there is risk in that, obviously.
“Also, he kind of blossomed the past two years, whereas the beginning of his career got off to a slow start. How much of that, do they determine, is the fact that he played alongside T.J. Watt? Definitely something you have to take into consideration.”
When it comes to figuring out whether T.J. Watt had to do with Dupree’s emergence, the Giants will need to dig through film and really analyze why he played as well as he did. That is the only way they’re going to figure out whether he will be a good fit for their team.
