Leonard Floyd would have instantly helped the Giants’ pass rush
Earlier today ESPN’s Jordan Raanan list 10 players that the New York Giants are interested signing as free agents. Now it looks like they are definitely going after one of them.
Dianna Russini of ESPN ended up reporting that the Giants were in fact trying to sign Los Angeles Rams’ edge rusher Leonard Floyd.
The 28 year-old Floyd is coming off of a career year with the Rams after racking up 10.5 sacks so he would have been a great addition for the Giants. But the Rams ended up swooping in to make sure that he wasn’t going to leave.
Josina Anderson reported shortly after Russini that Floyd’s deal with the Rams is done.
Then ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Rams gave Floyd a massive deal for four-years, $64 million.
So Floyd ended up getting more money than Matt Judon who signed a four-year, $56 million contract with the New England Patriots today that will average out to $14 million a year.
Floyd was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the ninth overall pick in the first round back in 2016. He was linked to the Giants that year, but they picked 10th in that draft and ended up with cornerback Eli Apple, who has since flamed out of the NFL.
Now the Giants have missed out on getting him for a second time. We hadn’t heard about them going after anyone all day but at least we now know they’re trying to beef up their defense.
