Leonard Williams is hurting the Giants
It sounds like the New York Giants have put themselves in a tough spot after using their franchise tag on defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network is reporting that Williams wants “a lot more” than the $19 million a season that he is set to make on the tag in 2021 and that he is essentially holding them up from improving their roster in free agency.
If Williams is going to keep the Giants from improving their roster, was it really worth it to tag him? Maybe they would have been better off letting him walk or test the market and re-sign Dalvin Tomlinson instead. It certainly looks like they’ve put themselves in a position where they can’t even sign at least one big-name free agent.
If the Giants aren’t able to add at least an edge rusher like Hasson Reddick in free agency, they will have to hope that the draft will bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
