Giants gave themselves some cap relief
With the New York Giants making so many big signings this offseason that have included Leonard Williams, Kenny Golladay and Adoree Jackson, with very little cap room, they had to do something in order to free up some money.
Field Yates of ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Giants converted some of linebacker Blake Martinez’s and cornerback James Bradberry’s salary to a bonus, which freed up some cap space.
Now the downside of this move is that this will add an additional $7.5 million hit in 2022. But this is what teams have to do right now after a down year in 2020 due to the global pandemic.
Bradberry will now have a cap hit of $20.5 million and Martinez will have a cap hit of $14 million in 2022.
With vaccines rolling out, it is highly likely that every NFL stadium will have fans in it in 2021, we just don’t know how many fans. With that being said, the salary cap next year will most likely go back up.
