Will the Giants extend Saquon Barkley?
New York Giants’ owner John Mara held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon and was asked if they plan on extending the contract of running back Saquon Barkley at some point this year.
“We’re not in any hurry to do that,” Mara said responded.
I think it would quite a surprise if the Giants hand Barkley an extension right now because he still has to prove that he can recover properly after tearing his ACL last season.
Mara did say that they expect Barkley to be fine for the upcoming season and that he wants him to finish his career with the Giants.
“We fully expect him to be as good as new,” Mara said. “We hope he’s going to be a Giant for life. At the appropriate time, we’ll start [extension] discussions.”
It would be foolish for the Giants to commit to Barkley right now given the fact that he’s had a hard time staying on the field during his career and Mara knows it, which is why he was non-committal.
