Giants will have to draft an edge rusher early on
The 2021 NFL Draft is just under four week away, which means teams like the New York Giants are starting to figure out how their board will look on draft night.
The Giants have a lot needs to fill and Dan Parr of NFL.com has outlined some of them in his recent article.
Biggest needs: EDGE, OL, WR, RB, DT
A stud edge rusher could be a huge difference-maker for Joe Judge’s defense. On the other side of the ball, could we be on the verge of witnessing a Daniel Jones breakthrough if GM Dave Gettleman finds the third-year QB another playmaker and improved protection?
All of the needs listed above make a lot of sense. The Giants need an edge rusher to help take some of the pressure off of defensive lineman Leonard Williams who had 11.5 sacks last season.
Then you have the offensive line. I get the feeling that the Giants will use the draft in order to acquire Kevin Zeitler’s replacement at right guard within the first few rounds.
At wide receiver, New York no longer need a number one receiver with Kenny Golladay being signed as a free agent. But if one of the top three receivers falls to them at 11, they might have to take one of them. I also have to say that with this year’s class being so deep at receiver, taking one in the third or fourth round makes a lot of sense if they don’t get one earlier. But it really isn’t a high priority for them.
The Giants do need to add a young running back. I would look for them to possibly take one anywhere between the fourth and seventh round.
