Giants have to protect Daniel Jones
It seems like new mock drafts are coming out on an hourly basis. Now we have the latest from Pro Football Focus.
Ben Linsey of PFF has released his latest mock and has the New York Giants using the 11th overall pick on Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater.
11. NEW YORK GIANTS — T RASHAWN SLATER, NORTHWESTERN
New York’s free-agent acquisitions have put pressure on Daniel Jones to take a step forward in his third NFL season, but the offensive line remains the biggest barrier to Jones making that leap.
Slater is more than capable of beginning his NFL career at guard on a team that boasts Will Hernandez (58.1 PFF grade in 2020), Shane Lemieux (32.2) and the recently signed Zach Fulton (63.0) as its current top options at the position. Slater’s athleticism and clean technique give him a real chance of having success outside at tackle despite being undersized for the position, as well.
Unless there’s a player from another position that falls into the Giant’s laps that they can’t pass on, I think the they will take either an edge rusher or offensive lineman in the first round and the same goes for the second round, depending on what they do in the first.
I like the Giants’ young offensive line already, but adding another top pick to the mix would sure up things even more as quarterback Daniel Jones heads into a pivotal year.
