Jaylen Waddle is a game changer
When it comes to the 2021 NFL Draft I don’t think the New York Giants can go wrong by adding more weapons.
Paul Schwartz of the New York Post has posted his recent mock draft and he has the Giants using the 11th overall pick on Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
1st Round (11th pick) – Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle
In this iteration, the two top offensive tackles, Penei Sewell (Dolphins at No. 6) and Rayshawn Slater (Cowboys at No. 10) are off the board, as is TE Kyle Pitts (Panthers at No. 8) and WR DeVonta Smith (Bengals at No. 5). The Giants love Waddle anyway, making this an easy pick, as far as where they value the player on their draft board. They think about the pass rushers out there and also discuss where Waddle fits, with Kenny Golladay signed in free agency. Ultimately, they decide Waddle fits anywhere they need him to be in their passing offense as an electric catch-and-run weapon. He is only 5-foot-10 but can line up outside, in the slot or in the backfield and once he has the ball in his hands, good luck trying to chase him down.
I love the Waddle pick. If he falls to the Giants it would be a no-brainer to select him.
2nd round (42nd pick) — Tulsa LB Zaven Collins
Collins is certainly an edge rusher that could help the Giants’ defense as a rookie.
3rd round (76th pick) — Louisiana Tech DL Milton Williams
This pick makes sense with the Giants having to replace Dalvin Tomlinson, but I would rather see them take an offensive lineman here.
4th round ( 116th pick) — Illinois OL Kendrick Green
I’d rather see the Giants to an offensive lineman a little earlier, but I could see them taking one in the fourth round or later because of the confidence they have in their young corp already.
6th round (No. 196 overall) — Buffalo Edge Malcolm Koonce
Adding an additional edge rusher wouldn’t hurt.
6th round (201st pick) — South Carolina LB Ernest Jones
In the sixth round the Giants will look to take fliers on guys that can provide depth and help them on special teams or even a possible diamond in the rough.
