Devonta Smith got jokes
The New York Giants and former general manager Jerry Reese used the 10th overall pick back in the 2016 NFL Draft on cornerback Eli Apple in hopes that he would become a star.
Unfortunately for Apple, things got so bad when it came to his play on the field that the Giants traded him to the New Orleans Saints in October of 2018 for a 2019 fourth round pick and a 2020 seventh round pick.
Things didn’t work out any better for Apple with the Saints because they declined to pick up his fifth-year option and he became a free agent and signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 but was released this past October.
Alabama wide receiver and current NFL draft prospect Devonta Smith is expected to be taken within the top-15 of this year’s NFL Draft. Back in 2018 he posted a tweet roasting Apple.
Luckily for Apple he’s gotten another chance after signing with the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.
So if the Giants do select Smith in this year’s draft he unfortunately won’t be able to face off against Apple because New York isn’t scheduled to play the Bengals in 2021. But who knows, maybe they will get to play one another at some point down the road.
