Could Kyle Rudolph wear the number nine for the Giants?
Every single free agent that the New York Giants have signed this offseason has claimed jersey number except for tight end Kyle Rudolph.
With the NFL possibly making it so receivers and tight ends can wear single digits numbers, Rudolph posted a message on Instagram hinting that he wouldn’t mind taking punter Riley Dixon’s number nine.
Rudolph wore the number nine while playing college football are Notre Dame University. So this is the obvious reason for wanting to wear it in the NFL.
I wonder if Dixon is willing to give up the number nine and what he wants in return for the number. We’ll have to wait and see. But it would be weird to see an NFL tight end or even wide receiver wearing a single digit number. I do hope the rule gets changed and players have more options to choose from when it comes to picking a number.
At some point the NFL will have to expand what numbers players can use because of teams retiring numbers of former players.
