Giants need a pass rusher badly
ESPN NFL Draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay have released their yearly combined three round mock draft.
Kiper made the New York Giants’ selection with the 11th overall pick in the first round and he went with Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith. Here’s what he wrote:
11. New York Giants
Kiper’s pick: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Smith’s chances of being available here: 47.6%
If the Giants don’t trade down in the first round, they should grab Smith or even Jaylen Waddle if they’re available.
In the second round, McShay has the Giants using the 42nd overall pick on Oklahoma edge rusher Ronnie Perkins.
42. New York Giants
McShay’s pick: Ronnie Perkins, OLB/DE, Oklahoma
I love this fit. Perkins is an excellent pass-rusher, which is exactly what the Giants need, and it’s good value for him in this range. He had 5.5 sacks and nine QB hurries in only six games last season.
Perkins is a nice pick here if someone like Azeez Ojulari, Kwity Paye or Jayson Oweh aren’t available.
McShay also made the Giants’ pick for the third round with North Carolina linebacker Chazz Surratt.
76. New York Giants
McShay’s pick: Chazz Surratt, LB, North Carolina
Surratt has sideline-to-sideline range and can cover tight ends or running backs in the passing game. He brings a different element to the Giants’ linebacking corps.
I’d rather see the Giants take an offensive lineman or defensive lineman in the third round than a linebacker.
